Updated at the bottom with confirmation from Torrance police.

A teenager who is alleged to have burned the home occupied by his own 2-year-old child was fatally shot by cops today, according to the Daily Breeze's Larry Altman.

Police confirmed to the Weekly that there was an officer-involved shooting this morning at Madrona Middle School in Torrance.

According to Altman ...

... the 19-year-old suspect, Asa James Dolak, was found with a knife in a girl's restroom on campus when at least one officer opened fire, fatally wounding him.

Torrance police say he went to his ex-girlfriend's home in the 16700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard about 12:15 a.m. last night and threatened to kill her.

She fled, but the 2-year-old boy was still inside when the place was set ablaze, allegedly by Dolak, according to a Torrance police statement.

The toddler was rescued by local firefighters and hospitalized for smoke inhalation, police said.

Dolak then allegedly went to his "family residence" in the 3200 block of Opal Avenue and set that place on fire, cops said.

No injuries were reported in the second blaze, but the manhunt was on.

[Update at 4:51 p.m.]: Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt confirmed what happened in a statement to the Weekly this afternoon:

Mr. Dolak was shot and killed by Torrance police at approximately 1:30 pm at Madrona Middle School.
