But now the Trojans can boast of more than their usual football supremacy (actually, UCLA seems to be outdoing USC on the gridiron so far this year) and academic respectability. It turns out USC is a world-class party school:
USC made the top 5 of Playboy magazine's quasi-annual Top 10 Party Schools list, coming in at No. 4 in the nation, the publication announced in a statement today.
What's to do in University Park on the edge of South L.A. besides hang out at the 901 Bar?
Well, consider the school's proximity to a revitalized downtown, a veritable wonderland of bars (the Varnish, Cana Rum Bar, Seven Grand Whiskey Bar) and clubs (Exchange, Icon Ultra Lounge).
Then there's the campus-adjacent party zone, frat row and sorority row, well-known for hosting good times.
The top party school is West Virginia University, followed by the University of Wisconsin and the University of Colorado.
These are all places where there's nothing else to do but study and party, so it's an extra honor for USC, nestled in such a vast city, to get a top 5 nod.
Here's how Playboy says it made its choices:
This year's list was determined by Playboy's editors, who used data from resources including the National Center for Education Statistics, the NCAA and the U.S. Economic Census, as well as feedback from Playboy's more than 12 million social media fans.
Here's the top 10:
1. West Virginia University
2. University of Wisconsin
3. University of Colorado
4. University of Southern California
5. Florida State University
6. University of Texas
7. Louisiana State University
8. University of Georgia
9. Arizona State University
10. University of Maryland
Party responsibly, kids.
