This week the porn industry got the worst possible news when a performer who goes by the name Rod Daily tweeted that he has tested positive for HIV.

His would be the second positive for the virus in the adult business since August, when Cameron Bay, identified by industry blogger Mike South as Daily's girlfriend, came up with HIV as well. While her status prompted a week-long porn shutdown, Daily's has not:

The industry trade association known as the Free Speech Coalition reportedly put out a press release suggesting that Daily's Twitter account could have been hacked. (We didn't get the release, as the embattled group isn't always happy with our reporting).

Blogger South, who has been anticipating Daily's announcement, says the performer does both gay and straight fare.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which spearheaded L.A. County's mandatory condom rule for porn, filed a complaint with the Florida surgeon general in response to Daily's status, alleging unsafe conditions on a set where Daily recently performed. (In a statement to the media, the group doesn't name the performer in question).

According to AHF honcho Michael Weinstein:

AHF ... filed a new Health and Safety Complaint under Florida's 'Sanitary Nuisance' statutes over the adult videos filmed in Florida without condoms--films that clearly demonstrate the unprotected exchange of bodily fluids.

California Assemblyman Isadore Hall, who has proposed a mandatory condom rule for porn in all of California, had this to say:

Reports of a second confirmed HIV transmission of an adult film actor in less than two weeks should send a chilling message to the public and the adult film industry. Enough is enough.

The adult industry, long resistant to the idea of mandatory condom use, has been fairly mum on this one, but Steven Hirsch, head of one of the world's largest porn houses, Vivid Entertainment, said it didn't have any shoots scheduled until October.
