An L.A.-based trade group for adult talent agents confirmed that a syphilis test for a porn star could indicate he has the STD. It identified the performer as a man with the stage name Clover. However, the group emphasizes that tests are more "inconclusive" than positive.

The Licensed Adult Talent Agency Trade Association (LATATA) said in a statement last night that Clover's battery of exams will be repeated in a week to make sure:

The organization says Clover was tested at two facilities, including Talent Testing Service, which has recommended the second battery in a week, ostensibly to rule out a false positive. Clover gave this statement:

On August 3, I received an inconclusive test result for Syphilis. I immediately contacted my agent, Kevin O'Neil with Type 9 Models, who in turn contacted his fellow agents with LATATA. Together with Kevin, I produced a list of everyone I worked with since my previous clean test.

He went to another testing facility Aug. 5 and repeated the inconclusive results, LATATA states.

The syphilis scare story was broken by industry blogger Mike South, who previously reported much of this information (NSFW link).

In the mean time the group says it's "advising an abstinence from filming" for Clover and those he might have exposed, reportedly as many as 15 people, until they are all tested and retested:

LATATA is advising an abstinence from filming for at least one week, followed by retesting for Clover and all of the other actors who were informed of their first generational contact with him between his last negative test and the tests delivering uncertain results. To date, LATATA believes it has contacted all affected actors, male and female, except for two female actors ...

The group says the studio that employed the two has not given out ID and contact info so they can be warned. Clover:

I thought it was of the utmost importance to act as fast as possible by contacting my agent,. This way all involved could begin acting accordingly. I respect the adult industry and believe it is important for everyone to work together to create the safest environment possible.

LATATA member Derek Hay of LA Direct Models adds:

Clover is to be commended for his immediate, thorough and transparent response to the possible threat of Syphilis. He put the safety of the performers of the industry first, as we all should, and he continues to do so.

The L.A.-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation says it wants county authorities to investigate the scare, particularly in light of the fact that condoms are required for adult video in most of L.A. County.

However, Clover was working for the "Reality Kings" series, which shoots mostly in Miami, so it's possible this happened outside the local industry. Talent Testing Service has a location in Miami, too.

We asked LATATA about that but had yet to hear back.
