The Irwindale officer, 47-year-old Dennis Alva, pleaded not guilty to grand theft, second-degree burglary and elder abuse today, the L.A. County District Attorney's office announced:
Prosecutors say the 89-year-old father reported to cops in January that $250,000 in cash -- a life's savings he had stashed away in a detached garage at his Azusa house -- vanished.
Authorities say they followed a trail to son Dennis and that he surrendered today in court.
He's being prosecuted by the Justice System Integrity Division and was due back before a judge May 6 to face a preliminary hearing, according to the D.A.'s office.
If successfully prosecuted the cop faces four years behind bars, prosecutors say. If this is true, the worse punishment might be knowing what he did to his father.
But, as reported, Alva says it wasn't me.
