The manhunt for Christopher Dorner was arguably the most expansive in Southern California history, involving thousands of law enforcers and even hundreds of journalists and citizen bloggers who documented the search.

The media coverage was so intense that Dorner's last shootout was captured on video:

Now the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department wants that and other video of the dragnet, the fatal shooting of Det. Jeremiah MacKay, and the attempted murder of Deputy Alex Collins.

That is, if such footage exists.

The department put out a request this week for "all related footage on DVD for investigative presentations and for historical purposes."

Should make for fascinating viewing.

Dorner, an ex-LAPD officer, went on a rampage in February, killing two lawmen (as well as two others) and targeting dozens of others in the department, apparently in retaliation for his firing.

Authorities believe he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound before a cabin he was holing up in went up in flames during a standoff in the Big Bear area Feb. 12.
