So you believe that, with all this Carmageddon business, many folks will just end up staying off the road altogether -- and the LAPD will back off on its weekend drunk-busting.

Hah. Wishful thinking.

As the weather starts to cook for an impending post-summer blast of warmth, the department is turning on the heat once again. It has South Los Angeles and North Hollywood in its sights. Here's your cheat-sheet:

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be a DUI checkpoint on Manchester Avenue between Hoover and Figueroa streets in South L.A.

-Tomorrow (Saturday) from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. the LAPD will be engaged in a DUI "saturation patrol" in North Hollywood.

You've been warned, and not just about this weekend's 405 shutdown.
