A man with a shotgun reportedly fired at construction workers in Hollywood today, but it appears no one was hit, police told LA Weekly.

Cops were called to the 6600 block of Sunset Boulevard near Seward Street about 3:30 p.m., Officer Karen Rayner told us.

The reported shooter appeared to be at large and ...

... police set up a perimeter. A command post was set up at Seward and Leland Way, Rayner said.

L.A. Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey told us no ambulances had been called to the area, and Rayner said preliminary reports indicate no one was hit by the gunfire.

[Added at 4 p.m.]: ABC Eyewitness news and various Twitter accounts (BHScanner, Hollywood311, WehoDaily) indicate the shooter might have opened fire from the upper floor of an apartment building behind Sunset.

The location of that building might be 6619 Leland Way, according to those reports.

Eastbound traffic on Sunset Boulevard at Seward was shut down.

[Added at 4:31 p.m.]: ABC Eyewitness News said one person has been detained, although it's not clear if that might be a suspected shooter.

Some Twitter users, citing an apparent lack of multiple 911 calls, are wondering aloud if this is a hoax or at least a "bad call." We'll keep you posted.

[Added at 4:40 p.m.]: The LAPD's Rayner told us that police have possibly located a residence where the suspect might be holed up and was preparing to make contact:

I think they located a possible apartment where suspect is. They are formulating a plan to call him out shortly.

She could not confirm ABC7's report of a person in custody.

[Update at 6:09 p.m.]: Rayner tells us three people, two men and a woman, were arrested. A shotgun and other weapons were recovered, she said.

As police started to clear the scene and officers started to go through the residence about 5:10 p.m. they spotted what they believed could be explosives and called in a bomb squad, which was en route.

[Added at 11:14 p.m.]: Rayner told City News Service tonight that a bomb squad found a grenade that turned out to be a movie prop; a shotgun was also recovered, she said.

The suspect, she said ...

... was possibly under the influence and cranking off rounds, but not targeting anyone in particular.
