January's Miramonte Elementary School sex abuse scandal has unleashed a torrent of accusations against area teachers. The latest involves Ted Nishihara, a substitute educator at Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada.

The 29-year-old was arrested yesterday after a student said he touched her inappropriately.

That report was made last Thursday, but after interviewing students and others Monday, sheriff's special victims detectives went to Nishihara's Cerritos home ...

... and arrested him on on suspicion of lewd acts upon a child, according to an L.A. County Sheriff's Department statement.

Nishihara was booked and held in jail in lieu of $200,000 bail, according to sheriff's inmate data.

[On] Thursday, March 8, 2012, the mother of a female student reported to Norwalk Sheriff's Station deputies that her daughter told her a male substitute teacher, Ted Nishihara at Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada, had touched her in a sexual manner during class.

A top administrator with the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District told reporters last night that it had also been alleged that Nishihara had stared at female students in an uncomfortable and sexual way.

However, the official seemed to describe the alleged lewd conduct arrest as a case of brushing by a student in a way that might be interpreted as illicit. We'll see.

In any case, Nishihara faces a felony case.

He says on his LinkedIn page that he graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

He states that he also works as a substitute at the ABC Unified School District in southeast L.A. County.

His previous experience, Nishihara writes, included working as a K-8 tutor for SCORE! Educational Centers.

His Twitter feed includes this tweet from February: "most interesting youth retreat ever."

Sheriff's investigators allege he might have other victims. They're asking for anyone with information on him to come forward by calling 877-710-5273.
