A 2-year-old was shot and killed in South Los Angeles tonight, according to police and media reports.

LAPD Officer Karen Rayner said it happened about 8:30 p.m. ABC7 put the attack at East 55th Street and Hooper Avenue in the LAPD's Newton Division area.

The toddler was reported to be a on porch with his uncle when shots rang out. The uncle was also hit but survived and was hospitalized in critical condition.

City News Service reported that both victims were shot in the head.

News footage showed that police had swarmed the area, but Rayner said no suspects had been caught.

Update: Police on Tuesday said the pair -- the boy is 22-months-old -- were not the intended targets.

The child was being held by his uncle when shots rang out and rounds hit a car, a fence and the two victims.

"The victims were both at the wrong place at the wrong time,'' said LAPD Capt. Mark Olvera.

Update No. 2: The boy was identified as Joshua Montes. The uncle, said to be in his 20s, was not yet ID'd.

City Councilwoman Jan Perry, who represents the area, said the man might be taken off life support by his family.

She said she would ask her fellow council members to approve a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the shooter.

The pair was apparently on a back porch of a residence when the shooting happened.

Update No. 3: Perry announced on Wednesday that the L.A. City Council approved a $75,000 for information leading to the capture and conviction of the shooter and any possible accomplices.
