Ring-ring. Who is it? It's me, man. Got the stuff. Good work. We'll pick you up.

Something like that conversation happened this week and, unfortunately for the suspect with the alleged stuff, he was talking to a cop, and not the friend he thought he was ringing. That's because Whittier police had already stopped the friend and answered his phone.

As a result, the caller got to have his next telephonic from the comfort of jail. Police say ...

... it all happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday when officers responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 10200 block of Orange Grove stopped a group of young people.

But that's not all.

In a tale first reported by the Whittier Daily News and confirmed to the Weekly by Whittier PD, the cellphone of one of the suspects rang.

An officer answered. The voice on the other end told his homie he had the stuff. The officer said, great, we'll pick you up. And that they did -- with handcuffs at the ready.

In all five suspects, including one teenage woman and an unnamed 16-year-old boy, were arrested. They included, according to cops:

Twenty-one-year-old Edward Mendoza of Pico Rivera, 23-year-old Ivan Camacho of Hesperia, 20-year-old Jonathan Castellanos of Norwalk, 18-year-old Juselle Ortega of Norwalk.

They were all booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property and jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Hey kids: Next time you call a homie, make sure it's him and not Officer Busta Tard.
