Apple finally dropped the white iPhone 4 on us yesterday. And while it's not noticeably superior -- sorry skinheads -- it is slightly thicker.
This led some bloggers to wonder if extra UV protection needed to protect the gadget from the sun (seriously) led to it adding some size around its waist.
Philip Schiller, Apple's chief marketing guru, indicated that the color alone made the fair-skinned phone's long-awaited debut "challenging:"
We thought we were there a year ago, or less than that, when we launched the iPhone 4, and we weren't. It's not as simple as making something white. There's a lot more that goes into both the material science of it -- how it holds up over time...but also in how it all works with the sensors.
What we found fascinating was news coverage of lines of Latino and African American men outside Apple stores in the L.A. area. They said they couldn't wait to get their hands on this thick "mamacita" and/or "big-boned" phone.
