Marcy Winograd, the progressive teacher who twice challenged Jane Harman in the Democratic primary, has not decided whether to run again now that the seat is open.

But in an e-mail to supporters, she said she wants a candidate who will be unafraid to criticize Israel and who would be willing to meet Wikileaks suspect Bradley Manning in solitary confinement.

It's hard to see either of the two major contenders -- L.A. Councilwoman Janice Hahn and Secretary of State Debra Bowen -- doing either of those things, so a third Winograd campaign may well be in store.

Winograd also says that Hahn called her on Monday seeking her support.

Winograd said she told Hahn she wanted someone who would "challenge pre-emptive wars, regardless of whether the wars were waged by Republicans or Democrats." She also wanted a candidate to "advocate for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, someone who would not be afraid to criticize Israel, to fight for equal rights for both Palestinians and Jews."

Hahn's response: "I want to make it clear. I am a friend to Israel."

Check please.

Winograd has not yet heard from Debra Bowen. But if she does, here is her list of questions for her:

"Will you vote against further military appropriations for expanded wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen?"
"Will you go to the wall to defend Social Security and Medicare, our greatest safety nets?"

"Will you visit Bradley Manning in solitary confinement?"

"Will you walk the streets of Wilmington with me, breathe the oil fumes, and work to crack down on polluters?"

"Will you support the right of states to pursue single-payer health care?"
Winograd got 41% of the vote in a primary last June. She has a strong following in the district, which runs from Venice to San Pedro.

Should she get in, it would certainly make things more lively and interesting.
