A Latino man fatally shot in the chest at 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, has been identified as Santos Velasquez Pastor. The shooting took place outside a liquor store on the corner of West 8th Street and South Alvarado Street in Westlake.

LAPD Sergeant Herb Chang told City News Service that an unidentified suspect walked up and shot Pastor in the chest -- and another man in the foot -- before fleeing. A woman standing close by was also injured by bullet fragments.

Pastor was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe him to be the intended victim, but are unsure why. Anyone with additional information is urged to call the LAPD Rampart Station at (213) 484-3400.
