He was patrolling the area near West Second Street and South Vermont Avenue when he and his then-partner were flagged down to help a screaming man, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The man's wife was in the backseat of their car, about to give birth. The officers "performed an emergency delivery" according to an LAPD statement.
The baby wasn't breathing, so the officers rushed the newborn to a nearby hospital, where it was revived, according to the LAPD.
"Captain Paul Hernandez will meet that baby girl for the second time; this time as an adult," states the department. "The event will take place at the scene of the incident."
The reunion happens at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at 200 S. Vermont Ave.
at the southwest corner of Second and Vermont.
