The move comes in response to the death of a 15-year-old girl who had attended the Electric Daisy Carnival rave at the government-run Los Angeles Coliseum. The event drew as many as 200,000 people, prompted more than 100 hospitalizations and saw some rowdy conditions.
At the behest of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the task force will include a youth representative. The task force is supposed to return to the board with recommendations in four months.
Simon Rust Lamb, a former rave promoter turned attorney, welcomed the task force on behalf of EDC's organizer, Insomniac Inc.
"We hope that the task force, with input from a broad range of the community and stakeholders, including representatives from the musical events industry, will create responsible and reasonable recommendations which can be implemented for all musical events in the county,'' he said.
