LAX police are often dispatched to help aid other cops in neighboring cities, according to a two-month investigation by Los Angeles radio station KNX 1070 Newsradio. In the past year and a half alone, airport officers were dispatched about 17 times to help aid police in nearby cities.

"We're a good neighbor," Los Angeles World Airports chief Gina Marie Lindsey told KNX-AM.

The airport police department, which has around 400 officers, have sent officers to surrounding neighborhoods such as El Segundo and Inglewood to stop gang fights in restaurants and control rave parties.

Lindsey and Police Chief George Centeno have said that the airport has always had sufficient police staffing when it provided emergency assistance. The department has now changed its policy, requiring top officials to approve off-airport responses.
