The affected beef was produced between June 7 and June 21, with each package bearing the establishment number "EST. 6217" inside the USDA mark of inspection. No illnesses have been reported, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The problem was discovered through a routine microbiological sampling conducted by inspection services. A firm in New York has also recalled ground beef and burgers potentially infected by E. coli.
The USDA described E. coli to be ""a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure."
