While Los Angeles would very much like to host Comic-Con, that huge San Diego comic convention that has flirted with the idea of moving to L.A., Anaheim or Las Vegas, the prospect has a very real road block:

Blogger and state Republican Party vice chair Jon Fleischman notes (via LAObserved) that plans to rip out part of the L.A. Convention Center and build an NFL stadium don't exactly constitute a welcome mat for the six-figure crowds that come to Comic-Con. The timing could be ill as well:

Comic-Con's move would happen in 2013, when its contract in San Diego is up. That could collide with two years of football-stadium construction, including tearing out 40 percent of the Convention Center, should Staples Center owner Anschutz Entertainment Group and potential partner Wasserman Media Group go forward with their NFL dreams.

And Fleischman notes that, unlike other grid-iron dreamers, these developers get things done -- particularly AEG, which built the Staples-adjacent sports and entertainment mall LA Live.
