A transgender employee of Macy's filed suit against the store this week after three years of alleged discrimination, including being thrown out of the Torrance location's female restroom. Jason "Jazz'' Araquel, who identifies as a "pre-op" female, claims he received "unfair treatment," ridicule and verbal abuse from employees of the department store.
Araquel was ultimately fired from the Del Amo Fashion Center store. It's not clear how much his suit would seek. Macy's had no comment.
"Given the sensitive nature and impact of the decision by any individual to change their sex physically, psychologically and emotionally, it is abhorrent that Macy's allowed her to be humiliated and harassed by other employees while also contributing to her pain and suffering through its ongoing unfair treatment of her and then termination,'' said lawyer for the plaintiff Eric E. Castelblanco.
