A suspect and two customers were wounded in a shooting at a Long Beach bank Thursday.
The robbery attempt was reported at 10:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Bellflower Boulevard, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Lisa Massacani. The Farmers & Merchants Bank president told KCAL9 that security video showed that at least one customer tried to tackle the robber and was subsequently shot.
KTLA News reports that two customers tackled a suspect who was wearing motorcycle gear and a helmet, and that one of the pair was wounded when the suspect's gun went off. A bystander might have also been shot during the scuffle. The suspect was also shot, possibly by his own weapon.
None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening.
The FBI told KTLA that agents are investigating the possibility that the suspect is the motorcycle-using "Sports Bike Bandit" who pulled off heists in Long Beach, Los Alamitos and Rancho Palos Verdes.
A security guard reportedly held the suspect for police after the shooting. The FBI is investigating whether the alleged robber had hit other banks.
