Seventies pop star Leif Garrett was arrested on a subway platform downtown after admitting to having heroin stuffed in his shoe, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman told LA Weekly.

Garrett posted $10,000 bail and walked away from jail at 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Deputies spotted him in what they reported was a drug-induced state on the platform of the Metro Red Line station below Pershing Square Monday about 11:20 a.m.

The area, Whitmore said, is known for its heroin users, and Garrett, who has been arrested in the area before for similar suspicions, was known to deputies as a potential user. They stopped him and he admitted to having a little bit of black-tar heroin in his shoe, Whitmore said.

The onetime teen idol was "exhibiting signs of sweating, and the shakes," Whitmore said. Deputies are "aware of him. They know of him, because he had been there before."

Garrett was taken into custody on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested for alleged possession in 2006 on the Red Line downtown.
