A man and his dog were shot in a Laurel Canyon home-invasion robbery that led to a car chase, with officers ultimately arresting four suspects in the Mid-City area, Los Angeles police said.

Police responding to a call of a robbery in progress in the 8200 block of Mannix Dr. about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday met up with witnesses who said they heard gunshots and saw a white Dodge Charger driving away from the area, according to a police statement. Officers caught up with a car fitting the description and gave chase, leading to a pursuit that ended up near Pico Boulevard and Hauser Avenue in the Wilshire Vista Heights neighborhood of Mid-City.

People in the car fled and four suspects were arrested after patrol cops, Metropolitan Division members and K-9 officers cordoned off the area and conducted a search. "Evidence from the robbery was recovered at the scene," states a department release.

Authorities believe that three suspects somehow forced their way into the Laurel Canyon Home and held a victim at gunpoint, demanding cash from a safe. They got the loot, police say, and took off with the help of a getaway driver. It's not clear why shots were fired.

Two other people in the residence, including a baby, were unharmed. The man was said to be "stable" at a hospital. The dog was undergoing surgery.

Police say witnesses were key in tracking down and arresting suspects in the case. They're still searching for weapons used in the crime and are asking anyone with information about them to call detectives Dave Vinton or Warrant Eberhardtl at 213-972-2967 or a 24-hour tip-line, 1-877-527-3247.
