Todd Haynes' creepy suburban eco-thriller Safe, about a housewife (Julianne Moore) who develops a debilitating sensitivity to the chemicals that saturate her existence, screens tonight at 7 p.m. and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the New Beverly.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams 3-D, Werner Herzog's meditation on prehistoric cave paintings, expands to the Downtown Independent this weekend. If you haven't seen it yet, this is a perfect opportunity to check out the Downtown Indie's spectacular 3-D setup.

The Trip, director Michael Winterbottom's extended riff on aging, fusion cuisine and the perils of almost-fame, expands to the Monica 4-Plex today.

Sun., July 3

Jonathan Demme's 1984 Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense will screen with True Stories, David Byrne's trippy tabloid-inspired musical, at the Egyptian Theatre at 7:30.

Mon., July 4

Celebrate Independence Day by rooting for the aliens in Attack the Block, the latest from producer Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), which pits extraterrestrials against kids in South London. The film took home the Audience Award for best narrative feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival last weekend. Tonight it screens at 6 p.m. at the New Beverly, letting you out in plenty of time for fireworks. —Sarah LaBrie
