A small gallery at the California African American Museum has been taken over by artist Derrick Adams' Network Guru, an installation that features six yoga mats facing a fake television screen featuring the familiar SMPTE color bars. Over wireless headphones, the phrase "channel to the sea" is repeated ad nauseam like a mantra. In honor of the piece, CAAM is hosting Workshop: Meditation Guru, hosted by activist and motivational figure Kenetia Lee. The workshop's focus is mindfulness, to "help participants achieve inner peace, clear their thoughts and feel more present" in order to be able to deal with the relentless and horrifying onslaught of political news.
