According to Forbes, Amy Schumer is the fifth highest-paid comedian of 2017. She’s the lone female on the list, which proves that despite progress, comedy is still a boys’ club. Founded by Victoria Nones in Chicago, the home of iO and Second City, Women in Comedy is aiming to change that by encouraging female comics to break the glass ceiling. With branches in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C., the non-profit offers resources, mentoring, online support and live events that help women succeed in the field. The organization’s first national conference, Inside Jokes, will simultaneously take place in all four cities and will feature speed networking with industry professionals, a panel, think-tank groups and a workshop on the topic, “How to Think of Your Comedy As a Business.” The day-long schedule also includes stand-up and musical comedy by Debra DiGiovanni, Atsuko Okatsuka and Carlie and Doni.
