“WHY DREAM IN INGLEWOOD?”  EPIC PRESENTATION OF HENRY ONG’S ADAPTATION OF “DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER” HELD ON MAY 27

K. Kitu Pao-yu (Taylor Hawthorne) and Black Jade (Bianca Lamire) share a happy moment as the star-crossed lovers in Henry Ong’s six-hour English-language adaptation of the Chinese classic, “Dream of the Red Chamber.”

“Why Dream in Inglewood?” presents a free outdoor performance in Vincent Park of the entire six-hours of playwright Henry Ong’s stage adaptation of “Dream of the Red Chamber,” based on the epic Chinese classic by Ts’ao Hsueh-Ch’in performed by a diverse group of actors helmed by Kila Kitu. Dream of the Red Chamber, a sprawling narrative that interweaves realism and surrealism, explores the decline of the fortunes of the noble Chia clan during the early Ching dynasty through a tale of two cousins.The complete play—in four acts, each approximately 90 minutes—will be presented with three intermissions. The schedule is: Act I, 10:30am intermission Act II, 12:30pm intermission Act III, 2:30pm intermission Act IV, 4:30pm - 6:00pm At various locations in the Edward Vincent Jr Park in Inglewood. Comfortable shoes recommended. Bring a picnic.
