Play Like a Girl, a monthly concert series featuring women and female-fronted bands, returns with an early-evening showcase of excellent local talent. Headliner White Sea is the solo project of Morgan Kibby, best known for her work with M83. Like that retro-leaning group, White Sea’s best material adorns giddy, ’80s-inspired pop melodies with sugar-rush synths and new-wave dance beats over which Kibby’s voice soars dreamily, often climbing the octaves to Kate Bush–like heights. Check recent singles “Never a Woman” and “Stay Young, Get Stoned” to hear her at her most enchanting. Wolf Prize features a similar powerhouse vocalist in Tori Roggeman, who tends to use her range to more ethereal effect, while Alyeska’s Alaska Reid evokes the wide-open spaces of her home state of Montana with driving alt-rock rhythms and her own chiming vocals and guitar.
