Sarah Benor and Tom Fields-Meyer discuss their new book, We the Resilient: Wisdom for America From Women Born Before Suffrage. Last October, Benor and Fields-Meyer, along with Benor’s mother, Roberta, and Fields-Meyer’s wife, Shawn, launched I Waited 96 Years!, a website that included 186 women between the ages of 96 to 105 who had been born before the 19th Amendment – which granted American women the right to vote – and were voting for Hilary Clinton, namely Benor’s 98-year-old grandmother, Estelle Liebow Schultz. After Clinton’s loss in the election, the website transformed into a book, with a foreword by Sen. Barbara Boxer, which featured some of the women offering young readers such advice as how to overcome adversity and sexism, and how the country can recover from challenging times.
