The “emotional hardcore” tag has been carelessly tossed around to the point where any mediocre band with hardcore elements and clean vocals gets lumped under it. Burbank’s Touché Amoré is the rare band in 2017 that has genuinely earned the right to be called emo. Backed by bandmates who have become one of the better songcraft forces in modern hardcore, vocalist Jeremy Bolm channels true emotion with sincerely earnest lyrics and tortured shouts that come off as the sounds of a man for whom without this music, there would be no healthy way to express his sorrow. Touché Amoré’s most recent record, 2016’s Stage Four, found Holm cycling through the stages of grief after the cancer-related death of his mother. The result was one of the most therapeutic and cathartic records of the year. Also Wednesday, Oct. 18.
