NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has returned thousands of images from space, revealing galaxies, nebulae and other dazzling wonders of our cosmos. But its future was once in peril. Soon after the spacecraft launched in 1990, the blurry images it sent back revealed a problem: Its mirror had the wrong shape. “To the Rescue,” a documentary from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, chronicles the dramatic repair mission astronauts made in 1993, as well as rescue efforts for planetary missions headed to Venus, Mars and Jupiter. This 60-minute film will premiere on Tuesday evening, May 23, at Caltech’s Beckman auditorium in Pasadena at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served.
