It’s going to take three nights to commemorate the Smell’s two decades of hosting shows by unconventional musicians. The all-ages club opened in 1998 in North Hollywood before moving to its longtime location downtown. Friday night begins with sets from Small Forward, Post-Life, Wild Wing and Moaning, and culminates with the coolly grooving pop-punk of Surf Curse and the contrastingly arty post-punk of French Vanilla, whose funky rhythms buttress singer Sally Spitz’s provocative declamations. Saturday encompasses the synth-pumped space odysseys of Future Shoxxx and longtime Smell mainstay David Scott Stone, as well as Lunch Lady and Crib. Sunday’s bill features members of Together Pangea and FIDLAR in a collaboration called Los Bolos, along with the shadowy passages of Beach Bums, the scabrous meowcore of Clit Kat and Super Lunch. Also Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 6-7.
