The Gooch Palms’ singer-drummer Kat Friend and scantily clad singer-guitarist Leroy Macqueen hail from Newcastle, Australia, but the madcap duo are based now in Los Angeles, where they’ve been delighting local audiences with their goofy punk-pop ditties and stripped-down presentation. The pair might appear to be the life of the party onstage, but they insist that they’re really Introverted Extroverts on their second album, which was produced by Bill Skibbe (The Black Keys). Most of the songs lean toward the extroverted side of their personalities, such as the old-time rocker “Living Room Bop” and the euphoric punk burst “Sleep Disorder.” Locals Janelane also mix punk and garage, but frontwoman Sophie Negrini has more of a sweetly poppy delivery, whereas Clit Kat’s often-explosive “meowcore” is harder, ruder and faster.
