A single song by The Go! Team can sound like a New Orleans second-line parade, a glittery disco party, a football halftime show, a psychedelic Bollywood garage-punk musical and a schoolyard chanting game all at once. The Brighton, England, band started as a studio project by Ian Parton, but the addition of ebullient vocalist Ninja necessarily changed the group into a vibrant live force. “We jump like no one else. … We got a copyright on feeling alright,” Ninja announces on the title track of the group’s new album, Semicircle. Skating Polly are a trio of step-siblings from Oklahoma City whose songs shift from restrained, simmering verses into momentous grunge-punk choruses. “I’m the beast of the boardwalk,” bassist Kelli Mayo confides coolly ahead of the rush of Peyton Bighorse’s guitar on “Queen for a Day,” a new collaboration with lyricist Exene Cervenka.
