As punk spun up on the West Coast at the end of the ’70s, Bay Area sculptor Joe Rees built the documentary outfit Target Video, and now he’s touring this 90-minute sizzle reel. It’s called Stand-Up & Scream, but if you’ve seen any of Target Video’s eye-popping right-place-right-time first-wave punk videography, you can’t help but think of Screamers singer Tomata Du Plenty exploding through the screen as he shouts, “You better shut up and listen!” Target’s camera crews were present for now-canonical live shows by Black Flag, The Avengers and more, as well as that legendary Crime gig at San Quentin and The Cramps at the Napa State Mental Hospital. Q&A to follow with Rees, Alice Bag, The Dils’ Chip Kinman, Wall of Voodoo’s Bruce Moreland and Vinyl Fetish’s Henry Peck, led by colossally knowledgeable cultural historian V. Vale. DJ selections by Don Bolles.
