Raise, had a sound particular to that moment right before Nirvana’s Nevermind set the pace for the decade. It’s an album that fits comfortably between the shoegaze of then-labelmates Ride and My Bloody Valentine and the noisy American college rock of Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth, with a guitar swell equally suited for big speakers and Walkman headphones. Swervedriver took that record on the road in 2013 but didn’t bring that tour to the United States. Now, as the band prepare to release their sixth full-length album next year, they’re finally bringing Raise live to Los Angeles, along with their sophomore album, Mezcal Head, both of which they’ll play in full.
