For three days, hundreds of students from across Southern California will race solar-powered boats that they built themselves around Lake Skinner in the nation’s largest solar-powered boat competition. After qualifying rounds on Friday, teams from more than 40 high schools will compete in 90-minute endurance heats on Saturday and race at top speeds in 200-meter sprint races on Sunday. The free, family-friendly event, produced by Metropolitan Water District, also includes hands-on water and science games for kids and shore fishing. Attendees can see renewable energy in action, learn about conservation of natural resources and cheer on their favorite team, all while enjoying the beautiful Temecula Valley.
