Slowdive live up to their name with purposefully sedate tempos and the intoxicating way that Neil Halstead’s and Rachel Goswell’s vocals swim through clouds of fuzzy atmospherics. Their breathy vocals and wispy melodies are juxtaposed with surging guitars and swells of hazy keyboards for a deliciously dreamy contrast on such aptly titled tracks as the glittery galactic exploration “Star Roving,” from Slowdive’s self-titled new album, the first recording by the band from Reading, England, in more than 20 years. “You know I had the strangest dream,” Halstead murmurs against a backdrop of echoing guitar tones that sounds like the reverberations from such a dream on “Sugar for the Pill.” Halstead and Goswell intone lonely, reverential melodies on the sparse, atmospheric album-closer, “Falling Ashes.” With local punk rockers Cherry Glazerr. Also at Pappy & Harriet’s, Monday, Oct. 30.
