If you see Sir Richard Bishop onstage with just an acoustic guitar, don’t be fooled into thinking you’re about to hear some gently lulling folkie. While the Phoenix native can unspool artful flurries of beautifully cascading classical-style melodies, he is no easy-listening escapist. As a member of the ultra-prolific Sun City Girls, Bishop effortlessly segued from Django Reinhardt–style flurries of jazzy guitar into unrestrained psychedelic bursts of pure, unpredictable noise. He’s never been knighted by any dotty, inbred members of royal families, but Bishop is a prince among mere mortals. When other guitarists coast on their ancient hits, he prefers instead to infuse his momentous explorations with a little bit of everything, including exotic world-music textures, as on his 2015 release on Drag City Records,
