Co-presented by the Historical Societies of Southern California, independent scholar Dr. Andrea Thabet lectures on the history of the Norton Simon Museum and its founder. Originally opened in 1922 as the Pasadena Art Institute, the museum went through several name changes, including the Pasadena Art Museum. Plagued by financial debt, Simon in 1974 saved and renamed it the Norton Simon Museum, housing his world-renowned art collection and converting it into a “cultural boon for the Los Angeles metropolis.”
