Phantasmagoria album by Kan Wakan, vocalist SAÍGO — né Tien Nguyen — returns for another evening of his February residency at the Bootleg, singing songs about everything from climate-change denial to surveillance-state shenanigans to the acidic shifting borders of late-night arguments with the one you think you love. His music brings to mind tracks on those old OM Records compilations from the late ’90s, only with twice the grit and a mere fraction of the slouching loucheness of those boutique lifestyle jams. Call it neo-soul, call it electro R&B, call it fuck music — however you perceive it, SAÍGO isn’t there to prove you wrong. He’s just there to speak his truth in the most beautiful way he knows how. You just get to be lucky enough to experience it.
