The Friends of Allensworth and the California Department of Parks and Recreation invite the public to our Old-Time Jubilee at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park.
Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park tells the story of California’s early Black pioneers. The settlers of Allensworth came to the southern San Joaquin Valley to build a place of their own—a place where hard work, dedication, and faith would allow them and their children the opportunity to control their own discrimination-free destiny. The town of Allensworth was founded by Allen Allensworth; born in Kentucky in 1842 he escaped slavery by joining the Union Army and devoted his life to education, military service, and love of God. After twenty years of serve as the Chaplain of the 24th Infantry Regiment, one of the four Buffalo Soldier regiments, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
Join us in a celebration of… living history, Fox Trot Lessons, Spoken Word, Line Dancing, Games & Prizes and self-guided tours of the historic buildings: The Colonel Allensworth home, the two-room schoolhouse, the Singleton General Store and Post Office, and many more.
