Mike Garson

Mike Garson is widely recognized as the pianist who created the demented solo on the title song from David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane, and over the years he anointed many other tunes by the Thin White Duke with memorable keyboard embellishments, including “Young Americans” and “We Are the Dead.” But Garson has also backed Nine Inch Nails, Annette Peacock, The Smashing Pumpkins and Mick Ronson, and he’s a notable jazz-rock composer in his own right. Tonight, he’s appearing as part of the benefit Cancer: The Urgency of Now. He’ll likely break out many of his past collaborations with Bowie, as he did at the Celebrating David Bowie tribute at the Wiltern in January, when he covered three dozen songs associated with his old boss. But he’ll also perform such tender original instrumentals as “Lullaby for Our Daughters.”
