Megill & Company, with guest choreographer Teresa Heiland, at ARC (A Room to Create) Pasadena, October 29th at 8:00 pm, October 30th at 2:00pm performs four new works by Beth Megill and Teresa Heiland that explore communication, reverence between mother and child, impossible glamour goals, and the pervasive presence of anxiety in our society.
In Tethered, a commissioned piece by Teresa Heiland, Megill & Company dancers interpret dance notation scores woven with themes of transportation, communication, tethered long distance relationships, and rituals of communication. Beth Megill responds to Heiland's creative process and movement themes from Tethered in a choreographic response entitled Dance for Peace. This work draws on the motifs of Tethered and some of the same dance notation scores, while deftly addressing the nature of anxiety and self-trust.
In Dance for Acceptance, Beth Megill performs with 9-year company member Karissa Smith in a duet about new motherhood and the challenges of accepting change and responsibility. Calgon, a duet by Heiland, juxtaposes the impossible feat of achieving work-life balance and glamour depicted in media.
