Plácido Domingo portrays the murderous and haunted title character for the first time in the U.S., in L.A. Opera's season-opening presentation of the Shakespearean opera, composed by Giuseppe Verdi with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and Andrea Maffei. Forceful Russian mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk plays the ambitious and devious Lady Macbeth, and the redoubtable James Conlon conducts the house orchestra, in a production directed by Darko Tresnjak (the Tony Award winner who also guided L.A. Opera's visually extravagant 2015 staging of The Ghosts of Versailles).
