International Women’s Day may be over, but you can still celebrate female comradery and stick it to the man with The Sapphire Sisters. Inspired the late-‘90s Girlchella that was Lilith Fair, the comedy-folk lesbian duo is the creation of Martha Marion and Jen Burton, who are members of Lost Moon Radio, a local ensemble that performs comedic sketches and music, and has twice hosted the L.A. Weekly Theater Awards. Tonight, the two preside over the first, (mostly) all-female The Daughters of Our Mothers Festival (because “we’re all daughters of our mothers”), which also includes Kenzi LaChappelle playing folk-rock, January Schonfeld playing folk-pop and The Heron and The Hen playing clown-folk. Partial proceeds benefit Planned Parenthood.
