Led by guitarist Vernon Reid and vocalist Corey Glover, Living Colour broke ground in the late ’80s and early ’90s by merging hard rock and heavy metal with jazz, funk and R&B, and though they found early success with singles like “Cult of Personality” and “Love Rears Its Ugly Head,” the mainstream struggled to neatly label them. Minus the hits, that remains as much the case today, and Living Color often find themselves on hair-metal nostalgia-package bills, which doesn’t feel like quite the right place for them.
