“Did I offend you? I was only playing games,” Lauren Ruth Ward confesses against a thrum of muted guitars, her voice pealing unbroken amid a slow country groove. The Baltimore transplant is just as at ease when crooning over folk acoustic guitars (“Burden”) as she is wailing above a hard-rock riff (“Blue Collar Sex Kitten”). Ward begins her monthlong residency following a set by her bassist, Liv Slingerland, who has a more straightforward power-pop style. Get there early, though, for Yip Yops, Deanna Passarella and especially Ramonda Hammer. Led by singer-guitarist Devin Davis, Ramonda Hammer alternate between hypnotic, slowly uncoiling alt-rock reveries (“Too Much, Too Recently”) and more tempestuously grungy passages lit up by Davis’ fiercely searing vocals.
