The world might be going crazy, but Hollie Cook’s music can often transport anxious listeners to a more peaceful and natural state of mind in the space of a downbeat. The London singer’s serene reggae reveries and tropical rocksteady evocations on her third album, Vessel of Love, are tethered to inexorably compulsive rhythms that keep everything moving. “Angel Fire” and “Ghostly Fading” are high-stepping tunes wrapped up in Cook’s dreamy vocals, whereas “Lunar Addiction” swims through a glossy galaxy of trippy electronics. The onetime Slits keyboardist is at her most romantic when she purrs the title track and “Together,” poppy songs that indicate she might have inherited more musically from her mother (former Belle Stars singer Jennie Matthias) than she did from her father (Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook).
