On Memorial Day in Pasadena, a new permanent memorial will be dedicated to those local soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Wars on Terror. Enduring Heroes (EH) is a group of Pasadena-area residents and Gold Star families who have been committed to creating this significant work of art that honors local soldiers. The piece will be located at Defenders Parkway (corner of Orange Grove and Colorado) and will feature an eight-foot bronze sculpture of a combat soldier triumphantly holding the American flag.
The program on Memorial Day will include remarks from:
- Gold Star father, Ed Blecksmith, USMC Vietnam Veteran and father of JP Blecksmith, USMC 2nd LT, KIA, 11/11/04, Iraq
- EH Committee Chair, Shelly Lowe
- Pasadena Mayor, Terry Tornek
- Congressman Adam Schiff
- Keynote speaker - Lt Col. David Diamond, who provided assistance to victims in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing.
